Comments on Naomi Kleins’s “Forget the Green Technology-the Hot Money is in Guns.”

In Naomi Klein’s essay, “Forget the Green Technology—the Hot Money is in Guns,” she reports that President Bush hopes that the ingenuity of market forces will determine how the United States finds a fix to our climate crisis. Bush’s public policy is a private response to the global emergency. They want investors to invest in sustainable “green” technologies as a way to meet the challenge of global climate change. Klein’s economic research into investment trends of the market show that less money is actually going into green technologies, while more money is going into “homeland” security technologies.

In fear of an invasion of displaced environmental refugees, technologies that offer protection from “war and weather” are hot investment items more so than investing in green technologies. She concludes that money is going into building fortresses rather than into building real solutions to our collective problems. Klein writes, “finding solutions for real problems is hard, but turning a profit from those problems is easy.” Thus, she says, we are loosing the war to find a solution to the global crisis because of the fortresses we are building as protection.

Klein’s essay is disturbing in that it points to a serious problem facing scientists and environments who want the political and economic direction of the United States to change. One of the reasons why I see environmentalists and scientists loosing the war against homeland security is because of the visionary metaphors being used to describe the future. Seeing the rich class gated up in their fortresses being protected by the police-state from the masses of refugees and immigrates who are seeking shelter from extreme weather conditions is architectural. Environmentalists and scientists don’t have such an architectural metaphor of protection and sustainability that allows us to visualize an alternative to the fortress.

Using green technologies as add-ons to 20th Century capitalist cities doesn’t solve any social problems. Green technologies alone without a vision of an architectural container are truly lame and hollow. It simply means that fortresses have already been established and continue to be built now with sustainable technologies. It isn’t inclusive because 20th Century capitalist cities were founded on us-and-them mentality of the have and have-nots.

Until we embrace an evolutionary architectural metaphor that houses everyone in an architecture founded on global justice and sustainability, the fortress will continue to rule with guns and high-tech border fences keeping the homeless-- too cold or too hot-- masses out in an inhospitable, toxic environment.

So, what is needed to advance us beyond the fortress? We need to image of global networks of grace within arcologies, or ecological cities designed with cradle-to-cradle, non-toxic technologies. We need to visualize the work-force building evolutionary ecocity designs that allow for everyone to be able to live rich lives within a sustainable lifestyle pattern. We need to step beyond the ghetto and the mansion, a win/loose dysfunctional model, to build a truly democratic architecture, win/win model that allows all creatures on the planet access to clean food, water and air. This is not a social revolution that changes the political players while leaving the development patterns in tact. It is a Lovolution, a non-violent move into a new blueprint for survival.

The Gaia Regime

The Neutopian presidency is riding the wave of regime change by facing up to the radical changes humanity must make if we are to survive. The Gaia regime works as a cocreative team of the best and most virtuous individuals who have an important contribution to make to the world-saving mission of building ecological cities or arcologies.

The purpose of the Neutopian presidential team is to morph us into Buckminster Fuller's vision of a World Management Committee who over see the formation of a resource-based “Earth Bank.” The Earth Bank will be a world-wide, public, holographic date-base where all knowledge about our natural resources converges, so that we have equitably reorganized and fairly distribute our common wealth. The Neutopian presidential team uplifts humanity to a new stage in Lovolution (the globalization of love) by developing and implementing a plan to build a world where human rights and global justice are the keystones for constructing solar-powered arcologies.

Phase one of the Neutopian transformation will build a prototype arcology for one million people on Arizona State Trust Land. Arcology will be designed with cradle-to-cradle industries, which means that all materials and chemicals used in manufacturing are either recyclable or reusable. We move from a consumer based, meat and dairy fast-foods livestock culture, to a user or learner-based, organic, plant-based, live foods culture. The spiritual kernel within an arcology is a blend of all the world's great mystical traditions, where everyone has the direct path to the mysterious ways of Gaia that help us free our essential selves to live for the common good.

In arcology, the rule of one-childbirth-per-woman makes each child a treasured blessing. The education of children is acknowledged as our greatest social responsibility. Free life-long education and preventive medicine is part of the birth rights of being indigenous to Gaia.

During the transition phase of building the network of arcologies, schools and universities serve as training grounds for the regime change as we move to re-educate the work-force with the necessary skills, talents, and genius to fulfill green collar jobs needed to construct arcology. Putting an end to the war we have been waging against Gaia, we understand that within the Gaia regime, national borders are no longer relevant, thus making nuclear weapons obsolete. As we disarm our fears and start to love the heart of humanity, the healing miracle of Neutopia ushers in an epoch of universal peace.

Doctress Neutopia for President

Hello Folks,

I'm running for president. I decided to join the race after the Tucson Weekly did an article about how easy it is in Arizona to join the race. My platform is that we need to build a network of solar powered arcologies on Earth and in OuterSpace. Check out my Lovolution Village TV show at Access Tucson for more of my visionary solutions to global problems. We can save the human species and it is our moral duty to do so.

You can go to my YouTube site and see more of my proposals to building a better world.

If anyone wants to work for the campaign or would like me to come speak with your group about the Neutopia presidency, please contact me.

Proposal to Present at Bioneers 2008

Hello Folks,

I sent this proposal to the Bioneers folks. I'm sharing it with you because I need your support. I've submitted several proposals to them in the past hoping to be able to present these ideas at their annual conference. But, so far, they haven't been accepted. It's time that arcology become part of the debate about what we need to do about global warming. If you would like to see this workshop happen at Bioneers next year, please write them an email regarding this.

We are all Environmental Refugees: Our Quest for Sacred Arcology

Over the last few years, the world media has finally given attention to the problem of global warming. Many ideas on how to curb the effects of a warmed planet have been presented. Green top roofs, green buildings that recycle water and generate their own electricity, and alternative powered cars are a few suggested solutions to the global crisis that have been demonstrated to work. If implemented on a massive scale, I have no doubt that these measures could improve the quality of life as air quality, noise pollution, and water begin to clean up.

But are the measures enough? On the TED website, in an inspiring lecture by Alex Steffen he says, “We don’t know how to build a society which is environmentally sound, sustainable, which is sharable with everyone on the planet, promotes stability, democracy and human rights, which is achievable in a time frame that makes it through the changes we face. We don’t know how to do this yet.” He goes on to state that every seven days a new Third World mega shanty city the size of Seattle grows. Steffen predicts that by 2020 there could be up to 200,000 million refugees because of global climate change and political instability.

What I would like to say in my speech for the Bioneers 2008 is that green buildings throughout the world are only small scale models of the greater model we need to create. I am suggesting that it is time now to engage on a level of building a completely new design of cities, what architect Paolo Soleri calls “arcology,” the fusion of architecture and ecology. Arcology is evolutionary architecture that exemplifies a changing archetype in housing, transportation, agriculture, education, communication technologies, political and economic systems that work from a holistic, gaia, morphic field--a sustainable energy field--that is radically different from the fossil fuel paradigm.

Visualizing arcology designed with “cradle to cradle” industries, recycling, and solar power provides an infrastructure for the arcology to biomimic nature. Building arcology requires a new relationship with nature that has reverence for it and seeks to work with it in a collaborative venture. Basing arcology on sacred geometry allows us to pattern ourselves from a perspective of cosmic alignments. Such patterns create sacred space needed to build the democratic spirit within the social architecture of an arcology.

My lecture is a call for concerned people to come together in the cause of advancing this new urban model so that we can start to implement the design on a world-wide level. In our current cities, we are all environmental refugees on the edge of an apocalypse. Building a network of arcologies manifest the vision of a new political reality and planetary distribution system needed for humanity to achieve greater freedom, complexity, and order. It is time to fully imagine a world of arcologies as the saving grace of humanity and as a way for us to protect all the other precious ecosystems and life forms that thrive under our wisdom.

A Call for Solar-Powered Arcologies, Whatever Those Are

This article was published in the Tucson Weekly Nov. 1-7th.

A Call for Solar-Powered Arcologies, Whatever Those Are

I was surprised to read at the end of "Community Under the Stars" (Oct. 25) that the community was not a "modern-day Arcosanti, some wide-eyed vision of an artist for a self-build fortress of communal living." Putting aside the nonsensical caricature of Arcosanti, where I lived for a year and a half, one of our favorite past times was to climb up on the "vaults" and look at the stars. But we could also see the glow of the urban sprawl of Phoenix growing toward us like a planetary disease run amok.

Everyone should have access to the night sky, because it puts one directly in touch with cosmic order. But in big cities such as Tucson and Phoenix, only a handful of stars can be seen through the light pollution and smog. Arcosanti, a model arcology (the fusion of ecology and architecture) is a way for all of us to experience the wondrous night sky, not just a few rich folks who can afford a home with a private observatory at places like Arizona Sky Village.

Urban sprawl and its car dependency are the reasons for light pollution. The solution is to build solar-powered arcologies. It's time now to plan one for a million people on Arizona state-trust land.

Libby Hubbard

To whom it may concern:

Thanks for publishing my letter to the editor [Nov. 1-7] about arcologies being a solution to urban sprawl that causes light pollution from keeping those of us who live in cities from being about to see the stars. From the title the editor gave my letter, “A Call for Solar-Powered Arcologies, Whatever Those Are,” it is clear that the public needs to be informed as to what arcologies are.

I request that you send a reporter to interview me, so that I can report to him or her, what arcologies are. Architect Paolo Soleri has been building the idea for 30 years in central Arizona. I have written extensively about the concept which you can see on my web site. One of the central themes of my Tucson cable assess TV show, Lovolution Village, is devoted to promoting the idea of arcology as a way to not only allow us to see the heavens again, but as a way to save us from global climate change.

Proposal to Speak at the Science and Consciousness Conference

Science and Consciousness Conference 2008

Title: Building Sacred Arcology: Gaia Reverence and Science

Length: two hours

Doctress Neutopia will present her thesis that at its core the Gaia science theory has a religious dimension and a global ethic. Using a Powerpoint slide show, she will present the theory in terms of Gaia not only evolving into a “global brain,” manifesting throughout the Internet, but managed by what Buckminster Fuller called a world management committee. Gaia reverence/science (Gaia RS) calls for an archetypal shift in architecture moving us from a world that is being destroyed by urban sprawl to building a network of solar-powered, sacred arcologies (the fusion of architecture and ecology) on Earth and in Outer Space as a way to transcend our critical problems.

The second phase of the workshop morphs into a place of Gaia reverence as we collectively design a Gaia ritual to birth into existence the psychic, inner infrastructure needed to build sacred arcology. Applying Barbara Marx Hubbard’s Wheel of Cocreation, we will focus on the sacred arcology at the hub of the wheel of conscious evolution. We will visual sacred arcology founded upon patterns of sacred geometry. Galileo Galilei wrote, “You cannot understand the universe without learning first to understand the language in which it is written. It is written in the language of mathematics, and its letters are triangles, circles, and other geometric forms.” Perhaps we will even discover that the mysterious geometric messages of crop circles are cosmic blueprints needed to build a remarked new civilization of sacred arcologies.

Our goal is to acknowledge the role Gaia reverence/science plays in human survival and evolution.

Three Learning Objectives:

1. We will examine Gaia science in terms of its social/political/ religious dimension.

2. We will describe the spiritual story of the planet that is evolving us to a shared consciousness, planetary spirituality, and a just economic order where human rights are triumphant over “corporatocracy.”

3. We will feel our connection with the magnetic force field of Gaia opening up our chakra system and healing us with a holistic vision of world peace through building a network of sacred arcologies.

One line bio: Doctress Neutopia aka Libby Hubbard is a visionary who sees the world transforming into a network of arcologies on Earth and in Outer Space.

The Arcology Model and Global Warming

Hello Folks,

I thought I would share with you several recent emails I've written in my quest for getting the message out about how a human rights based arcology could be a way for us to survive global climate change. Making arcology and the lovolution part of the global discussion about what to do has been an ongoing struggle. I continue to have faith that someday these ideas will make their way through the gate keepers of the alternative culture.

This letter is address to the founder of TED

Dear Richard Saul Wurman,

I’m reading a memoir of Scott Davis and your name came up on the manuscript. He met you when he worked at Paolo Soleri’s Arcosanti. I, too, lived and worked at Arcosanti. My dissertation from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst called for the building a new archetype in architecture, arcology, as a way to solve our global environmental crisis. [online dissertation]

Since that time, I have continued to refine my vision of “sacred arcology,” and to envision a social architecture, or psychic infrastructure, necessary to make arcology a realistic democratic solution. My newest essay “The New Urbanism vs Sacred Arcology” is on how the new urbanism only leads us into the black hole of urban sprawl, while building a revolutionary model—arcology--could lead us on a road of harmony with nature and with each other. My goal is to bring arcology into the global debate on what to do about global climate change.

As I write this email to you, I’m hearing the news reports that one million people in southern California are becoming environmental refugees because of the wild fires. In The Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore says that in the near future we could have as many as 100,000 million refugees. When it comes time to rebuild, shouldn’t humanity try a new pattern of development that works in harmony with nature? Isn’t it time to construct an arcology for one million people?

I have a passionate sense that arcology can transform our world for the better. What I am asking of you is for help in exposing this vision to the public. I am a member of TED, but my role there is limited. How would I go about becoming a teacher of arcology there? For the past year, I’ve been hosting a cable access TV show, Lovolution Village, in which I teach about the virtues of arcology.

Also, I am in the process of making a video documentary on visionaries featuring Richard Register, Elisabet Sahtouris, Jacque Fresco, Thomas Berry, and others. Our theme is building utopia combining the ideas of many people. We are inspired by Barbara Marx Hubbard’s idea on the Wheel of Cocreation. All the various intellectual, social, spiritual, technological, scientific and artistic dimension of life make up the spokes of the wheel. At the wheel’s hub, we have placed an arcology. We are looking for funding and technological support to help us evolve the video further. If you have ideas on where we might look, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Libby Hubbard

Solar Gaia Messiah

We are searching for the Solar Gaia Messiah
within us shining the light of love to all.

Solar Gaia Messiah teach us
the way to planetary management
so there is happiness and food for all.

We have lost the way to collective glory.
We have forgotten how to live for
social freedom and inner truth.

We have misused the resources of Earth
and now the air and water are cursed
with exploding atomic particles
disrupting our genetic codes.

We are the same mythology in many languages,
the same myth of the rising rays of star light
Solar God and Gaia Goddess
bring your invisible union in sight.

*****************************************************

This week I continue to hear the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi, “Almost everything you do will seem insignificant, but it is important that you do it”. The quote inspires me during the day as I work at saving the planet. It seems as though nothing I do makes a difference. I realize that most of the universe is invisible to us, so I might be having an effect and I just can't see it.

Hello Folks,

I've been creating away here in Tucson, AZ. Its hard for me to move away from the written word and move into video. They are such different mediums.

I have much to say about the new knowledge I received at the Raw Foods Festival in Sedona several weeks ago now. It was one of the best conferences I've been blessed to attend. Being there and hearing the testimonies of people who have gotten healed by eating raw foods, we are giving it a try. I think it has changed my life forever. Its been two weeks since Wayne and I ate cooked food! We get up a dawn and do sun gaze yoga. I'm inspired! Maybe I have finally found people who I can resonate with! To find out about it: www.rawspirit.com These are the people whom I would like to live in an arcology with. I'm going to try to speak at their conference next year.

I've written a short essay about my Nader image. You can read it here:

I've got new poetry on my web site as well. Here is one: Environmental Refugees.

Arcology of the People

Superpower of the people,
look out over the highways
of urban sprawl.
It is clear we have no cities of peace
as we breath in toxic smog.

The time is now to end the statue quo
of ignorance and immaturity
by seeing with evolutionary eyes.

Superpower of the people,
build us a sacred arcology!
Transcend the crisis of civilization
by building a new form of living
designed in harmony with the ecology.

Building an arcology of peace
gives us a noble cause to live for
generation after generation,
century after century,
a goal so golden that it
manifests eternal architecture
for the survival for humanity.

Enacting the blueprints
of heaven on Earth,
renews cosmic values
worth living and dying for.
Using our imaginations,
we see the starships land
as future people bless us
for taking a honest stand.

Neutopia's Palms and Batya Weinbaum

Batya Weinbaum asked to read my palms, so I sent her a copy of them. She wrote a beautiful review of them. You can read it here.

I'm ready to challenge the insanity of the nuclear establishment and corporate America. We can not allow them to kill us.

Saving the Colorado River

I've finished my letter to Dr. Helen Caldicott about uranium poisoning leaking into the Colorado River. It's time to wake up and stop keeping this voice down!!!

To read the story click here.

Our Divine Source is water. Without it, we are doomed. I'm praying that we can save the Colorado River and cause the Lovolution that I have been dreaming about.

"Keeping it Down" at the Edinburgh Festival

Wayne writes:

I found these reviews of a one woman play called "Keeping it Down" that played at the Edinburgh Festival. Neutopia has never heard of the Brooklyn-based actress, Laura Berlin Singer, has never been contacted by her and knew nothing about the show.
....................

IN THIS one-woman show inspired by left-wing US radical Doctress Neutopia, Laura Berlin Stinger is compellingly earnest as the Doctress, but the ideas behind this exposé of consumerist culture never quite come together.

The one woman play now showing at the Edinburgh Festival depicts an anti-nuclear activist living in the desert outside New Mexico who has her own cable TV show.

Provocative, surreal, a one-woman cable-access show.
Doctress Neutopia, new-age visionary from the deserts of America.

Neutopia: I grateful for Laura for making this play happen. I would like to see a sequel called, "Liberating It."

Wikipedia, Big Brother, and Doctress Neutopia

Hello Folks,

I am posting this former Wikipedia page because I want a record of it. What I think happened is that someone in the Wikipedia hierarchy didn't like my essay on Wales acting like Big Brother, and so, eliminated the page about me. Deleting someone from Wikipedia is a form of identity thief, as well as, censorship.

Full Moon and the Great American Seal

Tonight is the full moon. I've finished my Neu American Seal image and I am so happy about the way it turned out that I am celebrating with friends. I wish all my friends were here with me, but I know that many of you haven't seen in years. I want to know that I am thinking about you and I love you. We are going to change America!

The neu American seal gives a clear direction for America. Notice that I have replaced the eagle leg that use to hold arrows to now it holds an olive branche. The reason for this is that since 1945, war is obsolete. Peace is the only way to find the glory of enlightenment when we begin building new ecological cities, arcologies. In the shield, now you will find a model arcology, the final goal of our American destiny.

The star constellation which was in the form of a hexagram, is now a form of sacred geometry of the hexagon. The symbolism represents the consciousness shift that occures when we begin visualizing sacred geometry as the bases of sacred arcology as a new American architecture.

Doctress Neutopia Deleted from Wikipedia

Perhaps the folks at Wikipedia didn't like the story I wrote about them because I noticed today that the Wikipedia web page about me has been deleted. It's a strange feeling when you realize your place in history has been deleted! Oh well, I guess I should have been a good girl and not criticized Big Brother Wales. Now, I'm back to being a nobody, nameless woman who isn't cited in Wikipedia. But, Big Brother Wales, I have a mic now, and I have a TV show. I can be someone without you!

If anyone can figure out why I was deleted, please let me know.
