Break Fast in Jordan

How exciting that the anti-war fasters are heading to Jordan today to talk with the leading members of the Iraqi parliament and then on to Syria and Lebanon “to bear witness to the suffering of innocent victims of war in the region.”

Medea Benjamin said, “It is a breakthrough for the US peace movement to meet directly with Iraqi parliamentarians working on a peace plan. We hope to return to the US to build support for their plan.”

To think of the US peace delegation breaking their fast in Jordoa is so perfect. What better out come could there have been? My days of fasting taught me just how much dedication to the idea of peace these souls had. I feel honored that I was able to join them through the fast even though I was on the periphery.

Images that the fasters created such as getting arrested in front of the White House when Tony Blair and George Bush were meeting gave me a lasting impression. Medea Benjamin speaking out at Congress was also an image that has lasting power for the cause of peace.

Thank you all so much, every one of you fasters in Washington, DC who gave your soul to this cause. I know this is only the beginning of meetings. But I feel that these women and men of the CodePink delegation will come back from the meeting with real solutions to the problem of war in the Middle East that Bush and company never dreamed of. The anti-war fasters are the carriers of the dream, leading us out of the nightmare of thousands of years of patriarchal rule. I am hopeful that leaders of Codepink’s vision, mission, and power base continue to grow until the whole world is renewed by their charm, grace, courage, and love for humanity.
